The Brotherhood
# Members tend to dye their hair different colors to help ensure they are addressed properly by the Hunters. Yea, "the guy with the bright red hair" would be a lot easier to remember than by his facial features and his eye color if he shared the same color hair with 3 other members. Occasionally they will keep their natural hair color, however, if there is no one else in the Brotherhood with the same color.

# While the 10 members are not considered to be ranked above each other by the Hunters, they are amongst themselves. There are 10 seats, and what seat you sit in gives you a slightly higher 'rank' amongst the others, based on how much longer than them you've been in the Brotherhood. For example, Tonsor sits in seat 1. Therefore he has been in the Brotherhood the longest and holds a lot more pull on decisions than Quiest who sits in seat 9. When a member passes away everyone behind him moves up a seat. There are hundreds of traditions amongst them based on their rank and their honor.

# When they become members of the Brotherhood they are named with words based on Latin. Some of them have been slightly changed to be more pleasing as far as a name would go. This is done to further distance the Brotherhood from their past lives.

# Hunters who have something special about them are usually chosen--very rarely does a cold blooded killer make the Brotherhood. A sense of humanity and purity is needed to tend to the matters that face them on a daily basis.

# The Brotherhood resides in a compound separate from the rest of the Island. Only Level 3 hunters can enter the compound—all other communication from the Brotherhood is handled by the Messengers.

# There are many rules that govern their conduct and control their basic day to day living. Some of the most important rules are:

- Relationships with Hunters or others are prohibited. The Brotherhood has little to no contact with anyone outside of the other members—only business is to be conducted. And the majority of that is not done in person, but through the Messengers. Level 3 Hunters who interact on a one-on-one basis is mostly because they need to personally evaluate them for a possible promotion.

- Becoming a member means giving up any rights to your family. Marriages are annulled, children are orphaned, inheritances are given up, etc. It’s almost as if you die.

- The members themselves do not really communicate with each other outside of business meetings. They all have separate meeting rooms & sleeping chambers. They eat in the same room, but each Brother has their own single-seat table. They are not supposed to be “friends” with each other, although often friendships do tend to form within.

- Technically Brothers are not supposed to have any relationship outside, and that includes sexual relationships. Some Brothers, however, have been known to summon Breeders for the purpose of conjugal visits. Breeders are brought to the compound by Messengers who blindfold them to make sure they do not know the identity of the Brother they are with. This doesn’t stop the Breeders from bragging about it amongst themselves, of course.

# The members of the Brotherhood tend not to live very long, as the stress of their jobs as Hunters in their youth does not bode well for a long life. This is why Hunters attempt to get in the Brotherhood as young as they can—so they can serve longer and perhaps have a chance to make it to the first Seat. Many members of the Brotherhood do not make it into the top 5 Seats.

The Messengers
# The Messengers work exclusively for the Brotherhood. They are their personal servants, and serve as a connection between the Brotherhood and the rest of the Guild. Since only Level 3 Hunters are allowed direct access to the Brotherhood’s compound, the Messengers carry missions, payments, and information back and forth between the two. Since raising children is virtually unheard of in the Guild, often times children of low-level Huntresses or mates of low-level Hunters are taken to be raised as Messengers, as well as children of low-level Breeders. Because of the 24/7 access to the Brotherhood, the Messengers have their eyes sown shut as infants. They are taught from birth to function without sight, and are very proficient in living their lives this way. Usually they wear a bandana over their eyes to cover the sown-shut eyelids as some members of the Guild find them a little disturbing to look at. They are very obedient and will do anything for the Brotherhood. Most Messengers work for the Brotherhood as a whole; others have the luxury of working exclusively for a certain member of the Brotherhood as that man’s personal servant. These are highly sought after positions, as they are life-long commitments.

# When a member of the Brotherhood passes, their personal servant is honorably killed, as they have devoted their life to this single person.

# The Messengers reside in a separate area of the compound, except for the personal servants that have rooms right off of their respective “Master’s” chambers.

# The Messengers wear green cloaks, and the different classes have different adornments on their cloaks.

# Outsiders to the Island & Guild cannot become Messengers.

The Guards
# The Guards of the compound come into their positions much the same as Messengers do, but often guards are the children of higher level Huntresses or mates, as well as from higher level Breeders. Guards have a much better life than Messengers and are more respected among the Guild. Their main job is to limit access to the Island, police the Island, and to control access to & from the Brotherhood compound. The Guardship offers advancement and rank advancement opportunities, and the Captains of the Guard report directly to the Brotherhood.

# Outsiders to the Island & Guild cannot become Guards.
